College collaboration is important as an effort to overcome challenges and minimize weaknesses. But collaboration is often still incidental with limited scope.  This literature review aims to understand about higher education collaboration, the benefits of collaboration and classify it so that it becomes an important consideration in determining strategic partners and maximizing the output and outcomes of collaboration. 62 articles were successfully traced using Harzing's Publish or Perish program and google scholar. A qualitative study of 23 selected articles resulted in the conclusion thatthe collaboration of universities with partners could be double helix, triple helix, tetra helix or penta helix. Higher education collaboration has various dimensions of benefits, namely service, research, education (academic learning, soft skills development), distribution of graduates.  Looking at the various dimensions of the benefits of higher education collaboration with partners, collaboration needs to be well planned to optimize the use of resources in collaborating with the right partners and strategic value. So the agenda and collaboration activities need to be positioned as the implementation of the institution's strategy and policy to carry out the mission with a clear goal direction in towards achieving the vision of the university.  A well-planned collaboration will increase the role of strategic partners and bring benefits to the parties involved and will have a positive impact on the good and progress of society.
