Abstract

This study examines the role of local culture in the development of children's interests and talents, with a particular focus on identifying supporting and inhibiting factors related to cultural values and the surrounding environment. Cultural background influences the expression and recognition of children's diverse talents, whether those talents align with or differ from local traditions. The purpose of this study is to analyze the interaction between culture and talent development through parents' perceptions and understanding of their children's potential development. The findings indicate that local culture serves as an effective catalyst when it is aligned with a child's talents and interests. Local culture does not directly influence talent development; rather, it operates through a series of social and cultural mechanisms that strengthen the actualization of children's potential. Cultural values embedded within the family positively contribute to the formation of character traits such as discipline, perseverance, and self-confidence. The effectiveness of local culture as a catalyst is also influenced by the openness of the community toward diverse forms of talent and potential. Inclusivity within a cultural framework can create an ecosystem that supports the development of various talents without requiring children to conform to a single cultural identity. These findings highlight the critical importance of family and community support, as well as the provision of appropriate opportunities and platforms for talent development, in fostering the optimal growth of children's interests and abilities.
